Sewage pipeline construction begins on East Shore
April 19th, 2007 - Posted in Building Construction, Construction Equipment, General NewsRoadway construction began on the East Shore Monday for the second phase of the Incline Village General Improvement District’s effluent pipeline project.
The pipeline replacement takes place on Highway 28 from a point about four miles south of Sand Harbor to the intersection with Highway 50.
The pipeline carries approximately one million gallons of effluent, treated waste water, out of the Tahoe Basin into the Carson Valley every day.
IVGID’s Board of Trustees approved the $3.2 million second phase last month. Carson City-based MKD Construction will replace an aging and leak-prone section that runs through the Spooner Meadows with a new pipeline running under Highway 28.
Though the construction will cause traffic delays on Tahoe’s East Shore, the delays will be monitored by the Nevada Department of Transportation. NDOT officials estimate back-up will be less than last summer’s 20-minute wait.
“There will be a maximum 2,000-foot work zone along with a condition that they cannot cause a delay of more than 20 minutes,” said NDOT Permit Coordinator Janet Wreck.
The construction is scheduled to end June 28.
