American Institute of Architects, California Council Applauds State Architect Reappointment

Thorman, AIA, State Architect, of the Division of the State Architect, of California, has been reappointed to another term as California State Architect by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The State Architect oversees the operations and functions of the Division of the State Architect (DSA).
The DSA functions as California’s policy leader for building design and construction, providing oversight for K–12 schools and community colleges. DSA has offices in Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento, and San Diego, and recently opened a satellite office in Bakersfield. There are only three appointed state architects in the United States.
Officials at the American Institute of Architects, California Council (AIACC), expressed their support for the reappointment in light of unprecedented growth within the design and construction industry in California, as well as improving building technologies that enhance industry efficiencies.
“Mr. Thorman has provided solid leadership for the state, and that leadership benefits the residents of California and supports schools as a sustainable resource within our communities,†said Pamela M. Touschner, AIA, president of The AIACC.
