After a near year-long search, Ball State University has found a replacement for the dean of its College of Architecture and Planning (CAP).

Guillermo Vasquez de Velasco will take over the nationally ranked college Aug. 1.

Vasquez de Velasco is leaving behind a position as executive associate dean and director of outreach at Texas A&M University, where he also serves as coordinator of the Las Americas Digital Research Network. He moved to the university in 1995 after a six-year stint as an architecture professor at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

At Ball State, Vasquez de Velasco is replacing Joseph Bilello, who ended his term as dean at the end of the 2006-07 academic year to rejoin the college’s faculty. Bilello had been dean of the college since 2001.

Vasquez de Velasco said he looks forward to working with CAP faculty members and “helping achieve their collective vision in support of Ball State’s institutional mission.”

Ball State Provost Terry King said the new dean has an excellent record of achievement in higher education. “In his campus interview, he displayed a clear vision for the college and a genuine interest in moving the college forward,” he said, praising Vasquez de Velasco’s international connections and emphasis on community-based projects.

Vasquez de Velasco will move to Muncie this summer with his wife, Antonieta.
