Construction Materials Sales Break Records In Uzbekistan
January 11th, 2008 - Posted in Building Construction, Construction Machinery, General NewsThe volume of construction materials sales at the commodity exchange (UzEX) is constantly rising, which is the results of the increase in the volume of construction works being carried out in the country and the Central Asian region as a whole. At the same time the sales dynamics for the year are also demonstrating a growth trend, UzEX reported.
Thus, in 2007 basic construction materials (cement, roofing, sorted rolled metal) for the total amount of 538 billion soums (US$420.51 million) were traded through the electronic system of exchange trades. To compare in 2006 the indicator constituted 105 billion soums.
At the same time the relative structure of sales of these basic groups of construction materials changed in 2007. In particular, the share of the sales of cement (in total 12 types sold) grew from 59 per cent in 2006 to 74 per cent in 2007, and that of roofing sheets from 16 per cent to 17 per cent. The shares of non-ferrous rolled metal dropped from 25 per cent to 17 per cent.
Together with the domestic sales, a substantial increase was observed in the volume of the export sales of these products. Thus, the growth of the exports through the exchange in absolute values grew 13.8 times compared to 2006 (from US$1.45 million to US$18.5 million). This increase was largely due to the increase in the export sales of different types of cement.
In their forecasts for 2008 based on the construction materials market dynamics in the country and the region experts agree that the increase in the exchange sales of construction materials of domestic production will be kept. There is a high probability that range of construction products traded through the UzEX will also continue to expand.
