Caspian Gas Pipeline Construction Committee Meets In Ashgabat
June 20th, 2008 - Posted in Construction Equipment, General NewsThe first meeting of the tripartite coordination committee on construction of the Caspian gas pipeline and modernization of the existing international gas transportation system was held in the Turkmen capital on 17 June.
Leaders of the Turkmengaz state concern, Russia’s Gazprom open joint stock company and the Kazakh KazMunayGaz company attended the meeting, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat.
In the course of the meeting, representatives of Turkmenistan, Russia and Kazakhstan decided to work out an agreement on the main principles of implementing the project.
The meeting participants noted that the implementation of the Caspian gas pipeline project would start a new phase in the history of the long-standing intergovernmental dialogue conducted on the basis of an optimum balance of the old partners’ national and common interests.
It should be recalled that the new gas pipeline, like the existing one, will run along the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea.
The length of the Turkmen section of the pipeline between Belek and Garabogaz on the border with Kazakhstan is about 290 kilometers.
The reconstruction of the existing pipeline and the construction of the new pipeline will make it possible to increase the throughput capacity of the gas transportation routes capacity to 20 bn cu. m. of Turkmen natural gas with a subsequent increase in these volumes.
